About the company. 1000shapes® is a limited liability company under German law (GmbH). It was founded in 2010 as a spin-off by researchers of the Zuse Institut Berlin (ZIB). ZIB is a non-university research institute for applied mathematics and computer science addressing complex problems in science, engineering, environment, and society. The aim of the strategic partnership between 1000shapes and ZIB is to transform research results from ZIB into industry-strength services.

Products and Services. 1000shapes provides leading-edge software and services for shape analysis, medical image processing, geometric modeling, as well as computer-aided design and manufacturing. 1000shapes is specialized in developing solutions for computer-assisted treatment planning in orthopaedic, facial and abdominal surgery as well as dentistry and dental implantology. 1000shapes is offering professional support, training and consulting, particularly addressing customers from biology, morphometrics, ergonomics as well as medical technology.

Award-Winning Technology. The core technology of 1000shapes is based on developments and experience from more than a decade of research work in model-based image segmentation and 3D treatment planning. This work was repeatedly distinguished by the Karl-Heinz Höhne Award for Medical Visualization (2004, 2008, and 2010). A unique approach to shape analysis allows for highly-detailed modeling of complex 3D shapes and their spatio-temporal variability within and across large populations. Sophisticated visualization techniques communicate shape variations in an intuitive manner. The shape-modeling technology in combination with innovative image processing techniques have set world-wide standards for highly challenging medical image segmentation problems in terms of automation, efficiency and quality. It was awarded several prizes in the widely recognized international MICCAI segmentation contest, comprising segmentation of liver from CT (2007), mandible from cone-beam CT (2009) and knee joint from MRI images (2010).
